THE
DESIGN PROCESS

The dsb Team will work with you to create a landscape design strategy tailored to you and your project requirements.

Our Design Process is structured so that you are an integral component of the design development. We make sure that you are involved in the design process from start to finish with your review and approval as key milestones of the project.

The result is a sense of pride and ownership in your newly completed landscape.

1.  LET'S GET STARTED!

Consultation

The Design Process begins with an initial meeting on site and/or office meeting with project consultants. We will assess the existing site conditions, review any existing site plans or photos, then develop a brief with you in response to your requirements and explore potential design solutions.

Following this initial consultation we will prepare a formal fee proposal outlining the scope of works, scope of services, estimated timing and proposed fee to complete the works.

Note:

Does your site have large, existing trees? Are there large, existing trees overhanging your site from neighbouring blocks? If so, you may need to submit plans for approval and we can help!

2.  CONCEPT DESIGN

Upon engagement, we will request any existing architectural or survey plans for the site which we will use as the base of our design. If these existing plans are not available a qualified surveyor may need to be engaged (to be determined at initial consultation).

2.1 Preliminary Sketch Plan

The first phase of design is Preliminary Sketch Plan (PSP). We will produce an overall schematic site plan incorporating design elements and functions identified from the start-up meeting. This plan may include:

  • Hard landscaping – layout of paved surfaces, retaining walls, structures and furniture including material selections and supporting photos

  • Soft landscaping – layout of garden beds, raised planters, and grass areas

  • Schematic Planting Strategy – Identifying tree locations, and hierarchy of plantings (ground covers, grasses, shrubs, climbers and hedges)

  • Preliminary Species Schedule – common names and botanical names

  • Preliminary Materials Palette

  • Section / Elevations (sites with significant grade)

The Preliminary Sketch Plan will be presented to you for comment and any changes that you wish will be incorporated into the Final Sketch Plan (FSP)

2.2 Final Sketch Plan

The second phase of design is the Final Sketch Plan (FSP). All comments and changes from the PSP review will be incorporated into a final, coloured (CAD) software set of plans suitable for Development Application / Town Planning approval, and /or tendering by landscape contractors. This phase can include 3D imagery if required.

2.  DETAILED DESIGN / CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS

Upon engagement, we will request any existing architectural or survey plans for the site which we will use as the base of our design. If these existing plans are not available a qualified surveyor may need to be engaged (to be determined at initial consultation).
