THE
DESIGN PROCESS

The dsb Team will work with you to create a landscape design strategy tailored to you and your project requirements.

Our Design Process is structured so that you are an integral component of the design development. We make sure that you are involved in the design process from start to finish with your review and approval as key milestones of the project.

The result is a sense of pride and ownership in your newly completed landscape.

LET'S GET STARTED!

Consultation

The Design Process begins with an initial meeting on site and/or office meeting with project consultants. We will assess the existing site conditions, review any existing site plans or photos, then develop a brief with you in response to your requirements and explore potential design solutions.

Following this initial consultation we will prepare a formal fee proposal outlining the scope of works, scope of services, estimated timing and proposed fee to complete the works.

Note:

Does your site have large, existing trees? Are there large, existing trees overhanging your site from neighbouring blocks? If so, you may need to submit plans for approval and we can help!

2.  CONCEPT DESIGN / DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Upon engagement, we will request any existing architectural or survey plans for the site which we will use as the base of our design. If these existing plans are not available a qualified surveyor may need to be engaged (to be determined at initial consultation).

Concept Design / Design Development

The dsb Team will produce an overall, colour rendered site plan incorporating key design elements and functions identified from the start-up meeting. The plan will include:

  • Hard landscape – layout of paved areas, retaining walls, and furniture

  • Soft landscape – layout of garden beds and turf areas

  • Planting Palette – images and names of proposed species'

  • Materials Palette – images and names of proposed materials

  • Section / Elevations

  • 3D sketch imagery

This concept will be presented to your for discussion to identify any comments of changes that you may have. We will then use this information to produce a final concept design that you'll love!

3.  DETAILED DESIGN

Detailed Design

The dsb Team will produce a set of detailed landscape drawings using CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) software. These drawings will accurately document all areas of the design including:

  • Surface Finishes, Set-out, and Grading

  • Planting Plan - Species locations, codes, and total numbers of plants

  • Planting Schedule

  • Material Schedule, Furniture and Fixtures Schedules

  • Section / Elevations

  • Construction Details

This set of documents will allow us to help you to gain accurate, competitive quotes from recommended landscape contractors.

4.  TENDERING & CONSTRUCTION

Tendering Period

We offer Tender Period & Construction support services where we assist and support you throughout the tender and construction periods. Upon completion of the Detail Design landscape plans we will assist you with the tendering phase:

  • We will help you to gain accurate, competitive quotes from recommended landscape contractors

  • We will help review any quotations you receive, provide advice and ensure fair schedule of prices - allowing you to confidently select your preferred contractor

  • We will meet with you and your chosen contractor to to review the design in full and identify potential cost-savings, whilst maintaining the design intent and integrity.

  • Any amendments identified will be incorporated into a final set of detailed landscape drawings ready for construction!

Construction Period

During the construction period dsb will take on a Project Supervision role on your behalf. We will be your point of contact; responding to any questions and/or concerns that may arise on your behalf. This service includes:

  • Weekly site visits/inspections to ensure the landscape is being installed as per the documentation and to answer any questions that may arise

  • Final inspection of completed landscape and identify any defects that may be present to be rectified by the contractor before final payment
