HARRISON SECONDARY SCHOOL
Canberra, ACT
The new Harrison Secondary School campus provided the opportunity to develop a landscape of multi-use spaces, high quality finishes and amenities for varying student age groups and capabilities. In addition to the site campus design, dsb provided a special needs play space for students with disabilities.
The landscape setting creates an attractive, safe and effective learning and play environment for the school which considers the practical and long-term maintenance and management requirements for the grounds.
Water Sensitive Urban Design principals play a key role in the landscape through the development of rain gardens to utilise surface storm water flows to irrigate planting beds and reduce the runoff to the storm water system. Landscape spaces and materials relate to the building materials and functionality and establish an integrated design theme.
Through implementation of the above principles a quality landscape setting for the campus will be achieved that has landscape and visual benefit to the community, a positive learning environment for the students and a quality asset for the client.
